  • Our spirit has changed!

  • I took the opportunity to apologize from my children whom I used to beat.

  • We benefitted from the lecture; we learned that trauma is a stage that we have to pass through. However, we must also have a determination to learn from it and get out of it as soon as we can.

  • We have to be strong, stand up and live for our children so that they will be strong, too.

  • No for all forms of violence and we will not be silent on the violence that we face!

  • If someone rejects us and closes the door in front of us, we will find another door and try again.

  • All was new for me: I am very violent with my children, but after what I learned from your lectures, I took a decision to treat my children with love.

  • I refused to marry early and insisted on completing my studies. And despite the challenges, I completed my studies and I am waiting to register at a university. I have gained strength after attending the workshop with my mother. If I would have stayed in Syria, I would have had 4 children now when I am still 18 years old! But I thank God that I and my mother chose to join this awareness program. It helped us realize the danger of early marriage, and my right of education. Thank you ACCTS for what you have provided us with during the sessions, because it has brought about change in our lives.

  • The sessions helped me with my daughter. She normally expresses herself and how she feels toward me through drawing. Her drawings used to show anger and negativity, but now they turned into colorful images and beautiful scenery. I realized then that I have changed in her eyes, and she started to see me beautiful!

  • The lectures changed my view on dealing with my children; I started to deal with them quietly with compassion and love. I have also started to play with them. Consequently, I experienced tangible change in their behaviors, and they started to be helpful at home.

  • My relationship with my son changed; I started to treat him tenderly, and he started to share his opinion and listen to me. After I used to have great difficulty in dealing with him.

  • I live with the extended family and a 14-year-old boy who is blind. I suffered from violence dealing with the big family. But I am now strong-willed and I have stopped the violence on me and on my son. And succeeded in my life after attending these sessions.

  • I have been treated with great violence by my mother-in-law and suffered from disrespect. After training, I became self-confident and prevented any violence on me and my children.

  • I thank you for the entire workshop and for suggesting such a project; because we have truly benefited a lot. Personally, I used to get nervous when I deal with my kids, and during the last 3 days things changed; even the way they treated me! I have benefited a lot when you addressed the early marriage issue. I have a 10-year-old daughter, in her teens that needs her mother’s support. I used to consider it shameful to share certain things with her and my kids. But now I am more aware and I wish to attend more workshops in order to benefit more. The lectures we took brought about change not only to my house and kids, but also to my friend’s kids; she had them stay with me for two days because she had work, and she felt it’s safe at my place! I haven’t told her about the lecture. However, she shared a sense of humor with me today, saying ‘I will sue you because of the change you brought about in the lives of my kids!’ My kids have completely changed!

  • I learned from the workshop how to handle the anger of my husband. I learned to calm down and apologize. My husband was shocked from the change he witnessed in my actions, which eventually lead to sharing what I learned with Him.

  • After attending your session on “Grief Cycle”, I forbade my children from watching news at home, as I realized the impact of TV and watching violence.

  • Thank God that there are people who can comprehend our suffering and the conditions that we are passing through. We thank you for the way you treat us, think of us and feel with us.

  • You made us feel as if you were with us in Syria having passed through the experiences we passed through. As it was apparent how you could feel our suffering when we came, the homelessness we witnessed and the hardship we experienced with our children when we smuggled across the borders.

  • This is the first time I attend a lecture and I am happy with the new information I got, but that is not all, I am surprised by the love you are giving us when all what we are getting from everybody else is hate and disrespect.

  • I have listened to what you lectured and felt a great satisfaction. I do not know why you are different from us, especially when you talked about forgiveness. At first, I did not respect what you were doing, but now I realize that you are just trying to lend a helping hand to us, your words were more than wonderful. Thank you for what you are giving to us.

  • I learned how I can choose a trusted person with whom I can share my problems. I have also learned that trust should be put in God alone, because He is the One who won’t let us down.

  • I am now encouraged to talk about myself and my problems, and to stand in the face of injustice, especially about early marriage among adolescents to raise awareness.

  • I was a victim of early marriage. I lived for years with mixed feelings of fear, anger, sadness, bitterness and pain. But now you helped me release them. My feelings changed toward my husband; on one hand, I began to see the positive image in him and to behave in a better way, and on the other hand he himself started to pay attention to the smallest details in my life.

  • A refugee woman has been relocated to the US to initiate her son’s therapy, who is an autism patient.

  • This activity I attended motivated me to continue my walk in life with my kids who need my tenderness as they are grow up. And the most important of all that I started to take care of myself, and not only of my kids, because I recognized that getting better, means being available better to them. I learned not to give in to my conditions, but rather keep on walking steadily, smiling, and challenging the world for my sake.

  • After attending this workshop, something occurred in my life. My husband used to always hit me in front of my parents and kids. I learned that a woman should not stay silent but rather ask for her rights.

  • My relationship with my husband changed: I feel as if I were a child and now grew up. I felt in the workshop as if I have been lifted up from my place. When I got back home after the sessions, I was another changed person, more loving and more compassionate. I started to accompany my children to parks and talk to them meanwhile.

  • I learned that there should be no discrimination between both genders. And that my rights as a woman are as important as my husband’s rights.

  • My mental health changed a lot. I began to listen to those around me without being nervous. My self-esteem increased a big deal.

  • I shared what I learned with my husband, and we are trying to practically apply the teaching on our lives. We sat as a family and made a firm decision to apply the knowledge.

  • These lectures made a difference to me because we can express and share our stories in them. We can have fellowship and see our sisters. It is what changes our lives!

  • I was so shy to speak to anyone! It is the first time to share in a group. I was encouraged to give my opinion. I began to stand up next to the trainer in front of everyone. I thank you for encouraging me!

  • I am grateful to the Arab Spring which allowed us to open to the world and see how other people are living, particularly Christians whom image was distorted from the image that was given to us about in a closed community. However, when we came here to Jordan, we found great help coming especially from Christians.

  • I learned about my rights in my society and the religion I follow. I am now aware of my obligations and responsibilities as a woman. My thoughts and beliefs have totally changed now. It affected my life and the life of those around me.

  • My life was bleak, however after attending the lectures, my life changed completely. My self-confident increased and I can now control myself when I’m angry.

  • I learned that I have my own influential presence, character and strength. I will share my knowledge with my children, household, neighbors and relatives.

  • I thank the Arab Center for Consulting and Training Service (ACCTS) for saving my life, and changing it for the better. I now have a reason to live.. I will not forget these days all my life. They taught me how to be a human being, how to be treated as a human being, and that I am not weak, but I was created to challenge difficulties and to have achievements in this life.

  • I lost my mother, my father, my husband, my son and my both of my brothers because of a bombshell during the war, and my son Mohammed lost his left leg from the trunk, but I thank the Arab Center and the organizers because they managed - despite all this pain - to draw a smile on our faces again, and because they made us feel that we are in our country again.

  • Looking at the plight of others helped me endure mine. I realized that I could overcome my difficult circumstances that I should be strong for my children, and I decided to restore confidence in my relationship with my children.

  • We realized that we have rights as Syrians, even if we are in a country that is not Syria, and that this country can guarantee our safety and our rights, and that there is no justification for violence whatsoever. We were introduced to the types of violence, and understood the stages we have been going through since leaving Syria up to this day.

  • When I entered, I was surprised by the wonderful treatment we received in contrast to how we used to be treated like. We used to be inferior to everyone. We witnessed an unprecedented respect for our humanity, our loss, our challenges, our grief, and the difficulty we have experienced.
