ACCTS Newsletter July 2022

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." Proverbs 16:3

Dear friends and valued partners,

Faithful stewardship with time, financial recourses, and talents have always been important to us. We are accountable to the Lord and you with our service here in Jordan. We count our blessings in July for the extra staff, interns, and local partners that joined us this month to help us in our programs. Evaluation and planning are the key internal activities we conduct in the middle of the year, and it helps us to know the health and the impact of our organization ACCTS. Please pray for wisdom and guidance.

Nabeeh and Ruba Abbassi

Encouragement for Youth

Nabeeh continues to address Jordanian youth weekly with short videos. These videos provide biblical content and discuss passages from God’s word. Last month, the topics covered how to be good stewards of time, finances, and talents and how to use them for God’s kingdom and building and serving the community. Nabeeh challenged the youth from the story of the good Samaritan. We live among people like the man who was left for dead. Will we behave like the priest and the Levi, or will we be good neighbors and show compassion? We can make a difference in our community by seeing our neighbors with the eyes of Jesus - full of compassion.

Nabeeh also shared with the youth from the parable of the laborers in the vineyard found in Matthew 20. He presented a lesson about enjoying the rewards from heaven while relying on God’s generosity and righteousness as we live on earth. The practical application was to encourage the youth not to compare themselves to others but to rejoice with others. After all, which would lead to a healthier community?

Church Visit

A local church invited an AWT team member to help them use the Inductive Bible Study method. This church needed some encouragement and help in teaching the women. From this Inductive Bible Study method, women learned how to apply God’s word, were encouraged in family relationships, and recognized their tendency to seek other people’s approval. Women decided to focus more on Jesus, seek reconciliation in relationships, and take the lead in the women’s regular meetings while the pastor’s wife was absent. It is encouraging to hear how this method of studying the Bible impacts women to grow in their relationship with God and take on an active role in their church.

Storytime Event for Kids

In July, ACCTS collaborated with a local book café to host three storytime events for kids in English. An ACCTS team member read stories to kids in English and led activities related to the story. Most kids who came were mostly between five and ten years old. This event was an excellent opportunity to reinforce the importance of reading to the younger generation, provide fun activities during summer, and allow the kids to hear from a native English speaker. One local community member verbalized his appreciation on social media for how ACCTS cared for children in the community.

An AWT Ambassador

Hiba Al Shamaileh began a three-year journey with AWT a few years ago. She found the journey’s steps clear and beneficial for her specific needs. The greatest impact AWT had on her life was staying with her through the journey. “Because AWT supported me from the beginning of my journey, I want to support other women,” Hiba says. She took the time to encourage others and be an ambassador for AWT in a recent radio interview. The link to this interview with English subtitles is available here.

We are grateful for our AWT team that takes the time to follow through with numerous women as they continue their journey with us. Your partnership and support make this possible.
