A Healthy Population Is Its Country’s Wealth
ACCTS hosted a medical workshop on diabetes, conducted by professionals in the field, with the aim to raise awareness and to educate people about this disease which has high prevalence in the Jordanian society.
22nd July of 2017
Amman, Jordan (ACCTS-AWT) - Around fifty five women, Syrians and Jordanians, attended a medical workshop about diabetes, set up at the cultural center Al Husn, in cooperation with Al-Yanbu' Charity Association and Al Husn Health Center.
In 2014, it was recorded that around 34% of Jordanians, aged above twenty-five were living with diabetes and in addition to that, the Jordanian population was recorded as one of the top 10 most overweight populations in the world. Since then, campaigns have been conducted by health officials around Jordan, educating people on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle but still a lot needs to be done.
We were privileged to have Dr. Suhad Marji, who was visiting the country, be our guest speaker. Her knowledge on the subject was more than helpful to address and shed light on these points: What is diabetes? The Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes; its causes, types of diabetes, treatment, how is diabetes managed and how to test blood sugar. Following the talk, more than fifty five women got their blood sugar level checked.
The workshop was a success and the women expressed their gratitude towards the center’s staff for always looking out for their interests in all aspects of life.
