19 July, 2016
Zarqa, Jordan (ACCTS-AWT) – In this session, ACCTS partnered with Jordan River Foundation to train fourteen women and volunteers already working in the social field. The session was given by a specialist, Ms. AlHalabi, and raised awareness of key concepts and violence trends against women.
Our aim through this session was to inform and educate the women on core needs to build a positive support system for women in the local community.
Giuseppe Belsito, UN Women Jordan’s representative stated: “One in three women in Jordan has been a victim of physical violence at least once since the age of 15, and nearly one in 10 women has experiened sexual violence”.
For this reason, an important step towards a fairer and more equal society is educating coaches to provide the most effective advice and counsel to sexual and gender based victims.
The training provided vital information about case management, basic principles, and procedures one should follow in cases of violence. In this case, our participants began to recognize the different forms and shapes of practice women are subjected to. In addition, participants were informed of the organizations in Jordan which provide aid and support for women on economic, human rights, and legal levels.
Due to these training sessions, participants are given the necessary assets to deal with sexual and gender based violence cases across local communities in Jordan. In this case, social problems are handled personally within towns rather than working externally.
The women attendees were encouraged to work with greater power and self-confidence in the area of social injustice. Many women also spoke about the change in negative mindset practices they had previous to the session. Furthermore, all were thankful for the appropriate tools they were empowered with in order to deal with cases of abuse in the best possible manner.
