AWT attends a consultative meeting regarding the participation of the Jordanian delegation in Geneva
The Jordanian National Committee for Women Affairs and the Jordanian Council for Human Rights organisations in cooperation with the Government Coordinator for Human Rights conducted a consultative meeting for the participation of the Jordanian official delegation in Geneva.
9 February 2017
Amman, Jordan – This consultative meeting successfully united the civil society’s organisations, HE Secretary of the National Commission for Women, representatives of the government, legislatures, and the Coalition for Human Rights. Together, we were able to provide the most accurate information and participate in the sixth periodic report of the Convention on the elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
CEDAW was adopted and opened for signing and ratification in 1979 by the United Nations. This aimed to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, the dignity and worth of the human person, and the equality between men and women. In January 1980, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan signed the CEDAW and submitted five periodic reports ever since. These reports presented a progress summary made by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the implementation of the CEDAW.
We are very supportive of the articles mentioned in the report and hope for their full implementation in the Jordanian society and law. For this reason, it is imperative that local organisations, legislation representatives, and other people working in the field of Human Rights, inform the Geneva delegation accurately on the current state in which these articles have been materialised.
We aspire to able to work together towards building a society of full egalitarianism, dignity, and belief in the potential of all women.
