Challenging Stereotypes
ACCTS Community center held a graduation ceremony for ladies who finished the plumbing program, one of the many training programs the center offers.

AlHusn, Jordan (ACCTS-AWT) - ACCTS Community Center at Husn celebrated the graduation of ten ladies after they have accomplished the plumbing training program. The manager of the center granted each graduate a certificate with a tool kit offered by Mountain View Church.
The training provided these women with prospects for the future and a means of supporting their families. Most of these women got involved out of a desire to be self-reliant by being able to fix the plumbing inside their houses without having to call a professional.
The participants expressed their hope that this kind of training will help pave the way for more women to get involved in male-dominated sectors, slowly changing the patriarchal mentality prevailing in the labor market. Being involved in plumbing training, women overcome the barrier of culture of shame that certain occupations are exclusive for men. They wanted to prove that women could do the same work as men.
We share the same hope as the participants; to see women challenge stereotypes in their cultures and communities and looking forward for a new course to begin.
