ACCTS Newsletter / February 2020

Friends and Partners,

I had the honor to be invited to the 68th annual National Prayer Breakfast, at the Washington Hilton, on Feb. 6, 2020, in Washington, DC.

The theme of the prayer breakfast centered on Jesus’ commandment to love your enemies. The congregation offered a prayer for those suffering religious persecution around the world, including Muslims, Yazidis, Buddhists, Christians, and those from other faiths.

Author and Harvard professor Arthur Brooks urged the audience not to let their disagreements over politics lead to contempt. Brooks also said Jesus asked his followers to love their enemies — not just tolerate them.  President Trump admitted that it is hard to love his enemies.

It is by your partnership, prayers, and financial support we can fulfill the great commission.

Break the Silence Campaign

We are halfway through in our campaign, titled "Break the Silence," which aims to raise the awareness of sexually abused girls and urge them to break their silence.

A Jordanian newspaper Al Ghad wrote about the campaign, and a local radio station Radio Al-Balad 92.5 FM interviewed us to share about it. Click here to read the article published on 15 February 2020 in the newspaper and here to watch the interview.

We have been receiving a good response on all our social media platforms, and women started to come to us and open up from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. It has also reached the Arab States of the Gulf, thanks to AWT ambassadors.

We have counselors and specialists to follow up on a limited number of cases that we can afford freely; however, if the number surpasses our capacity, we shall refer them to specialized clinics at their expense. Our social media associate is following up many cases now and referring some to our free counseling specialists.

The campaign started on 25 January and shall continue until 19 March, providing all needed material on the topic, whether through articles, short videos, audios, social media posts besides follow up and counseling. Ending the campaign does not mean, of course, stopping the follow-up of the abused women.

We are excited about what the Lord is doing through this campaign and trusting his wisdom and support. We want to see women healed and obtaining a full recovery that qualifies them for a bright, productive future without buried frustrations.

You can follow the campaign on the woman department's social media platforms. Sorry, all material is in Arabic; still, you can catch a glimpse.

As we are still at the beginning of 2020, I encourage you to contemplate where God would have you to invest in the work he is doing. We also invite you to consider how your giving can make a kingdom impact. By God's grace and generosity, we can continue serving.

You can choose to support an abused woman to receive counseling. A gift of any amount helps cover part of the cost of one counseling session with a professional counselor. Your gift can make a difference in the life of a woman on her way to healing.

Awareness Session on Divorce

ICC conducted an awareness lecture on divorce in cooperation with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development. The workshop targeted women from the local community and Syrian refugees. It tackled the causes of divorce and its negative impacts on the family members in particular on society in general.

To read more about the impact of the program, you may visit the news page and learn more about ICC.

The Lord is using our center to bless many Syrian refugee women through different activities, and sustainability means it provides for a better life.

You may listen to some stories straight from the mouths of the refugee women.

Empowering Sessions at Local Churches

AWT presented an analytical topic about the seasons in life at two local churches, in Eastern and Western Amman. The speaker gave an analytical issue for assessing the spiritual seasons that women experience in the church. Besides, how to shift to a higher spiritual stage in which she can be an effective woman. Women learned how to examine where they stand in their spiritual life and make sure to be in the right place with a right stand before the Lord.

  • The Lord spoke to me, and I realized why I stand frozen in my place spiritually. Nevertheless, I am getting out of this situation by the grace of the Lord to be more effective in my spiritual life.

  • I realized that I have been practicing my faith without spirit, a mere custom by going to the church. However, the Lord opened the door for me to have a more fruitful and personal relationship with him.

  • The Lord spoke to me through you. The Holy Spirit convicted me, and I accept the discipline because I want to stay under God's umbrella of protection. I repent! I am going now to apologize to my husband. I treated him wrong!

  • I pray to be steadfast in my faith and to have a revived, passionate relationship with the Lord.

  • I realized that I am loved, and I can always go back to the arms of the Lord.

Coming soon

ACCTS leadership and management approved a new approach to advancing the economic empowerment through technology. AWT is starting a new small group training in northern Jordan teaching young women ages 18-35 how to discover the need of the market in their community. The training helps them start their innovation journey and become fully involved in the economic sector. The expectation is that our pilot starts around mid-March in partnership with DOT Jordan and other stakeholders.
