Landmark Hotel, Amman, Jordan- (ACCTS-AWT)- The 24th October 2016 witnessed the launch of the first book of The Arab Center for Consulting and Training Services (ACCTS) entitled «The Arab Woman: Embracing Her Potential» in a ceremony held under the auspices of Mrs. Asma Khader, at Landmark Hotel. The author is Ruba Rihani, head of The Arab Woman Today Department (AWT) under ACCTS. The book is newly published by «Ophir printers and publishers».

Mrs. Khadr at the beginning of the ceremony talked about the status quo on women in Jordan on the one hand, and the Arab world on the other hand, before moving to talk about the book and its author who wrote its words with passion, faith and compassion with women’s issue, where she has experienced a range of issues she lived herself by real experience. Later, she confirmed that Rihani did not address the challenges that only women face, but she went further to develop ideas and solutions to those challenges. Then Khader recounted a set of statistics about the status quo on women in Jordan, where the statistics confirm, according to Khader, «That women are vulnerable residing behind bars at house».

Khader drew the attention that liberation half of the society is liberation to the whole society, and that a nation of oppressed women equals a whole oppressed nation.

Author Rihani talked about the reasons that led her to publish the book, including that it revolves around the status quo on women, which shines through real life stories.

Later, Journalist and media Consultant Eman Akour held a discussion with author about her book, where Rihani reviewed in that conversation the seven chapters of the book, whereas each begins with a short realistic story which took place in an Arab country. Although the picture looks dark, however there is a glimmer of hope at the end of each chapter to submit a proposal that requires taking a quick action. The book begins, according to Rihani, by raising the issue of women's home attachment and practicing her motherly role, and then discusses her role as guardian of the family's honor. The book also deals with the status of women and their role in the home and community, and the dominant perspective that she is just a painting in the Museum of the Man. Then the book addresses the violence against women in all its forms and how to confront it.

I have great hope in educated young women to reap the fruit

of the efforts they have sown to change the concept of shame culture.

A Quote from the book

The book also addresses the challenges of women in work and her multiple roles as a wife or a working mother, as well as it digs into a psychological realm relating to the life of oppression she lives, the factors that lead to it, and her reactions toward this deadly disease. Eventually, the book presents a proposal to church leaders in the Arab world which highlights the Christian woman who is still living under multiplied oppression in the family, the society and perhaps the Church, despite that God granted her a distinguished position and value which are equivalent to that of a man.
